 EME2040 Blog Post #1

In this EME2040 class, I hope to learn how I can use technology to prepare myself for my teaching career. Since I am not comfortable using spreadsheets and other resources, my goal is to be receptive to everything I learn in this class and apply it to education. The world is already almost completely digital, and I feel left behind since everything in technology is constantly changing. When I complete this course, I hope to be able to create innovative assignments, organize class resources, and overall have a better grasp on technology to help myself and my students.
I have not had many prior experiences using technology in a classroom. For submitting tasks, I have mostly used the basic tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Canvas. I've used Final Cut Pro to edit videos, so that's the one area where I have slightly more knowledge. Even though Final Cut is a specific tool, I believe it has demonstrated to me the broader idea of creative and communicative power of technology. But other than that, I am still lacking in my knowledge of technology.
I would describe my own learning networks as straightforward but effective. I enjoy learning new creative talents, particularly video editing, photo editing, and writing. When I feel stuck, I usually turn to Google or YouTube to help solve my questions. I have also found my tech-savvy classmates to be extremely helpful when I'm unable to figure out a technological issue. To continue developing my technology skills for the benefit of my future students and myself, I aim to create a learning network where I can receive help and support throughout this journey.

  1. I really appreciate your honesty about where you are with technology and your eagerness to improve. I think it’s great that you’re already recognizing the importance of creating a strong learning network, since asking questions and collaborating with others is such a valuable skill for teachers. Your experience with Final Cut Pro shows that you already understand how technology can be a creative and communicative tool, which will definitely help when designing engaging lessons. I also relate to feeling a bit behind with constantly changing technology, so it’s encouraging to see your proactive attitude about learning. I’m sure your openness to new tools and willingness to seek support will help you grow quickly in this class.
